"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" - William Butler Yeats

From VMCTE, edappallicotta we are assigned to SVHSS, Clappana for the school induction programme as part of the B.Ed. curriculum to provide first-hand experience of the school environment. It offered as the opportunity to observe the administrative and faculty members. We a group of 6 members were assigned to the school for five days observation from 23.09.2024 to 27.09.2024. The programme provided us with a comprehensive understanding of the school's history, school's infrastructure, and educational practices.

Day 1- 23rd September 2024
The excitement of beginning my school induction was undeniable as I arrived at the school gate promptly at 9.30 am. Our team, a group of six members, gathered together eager to embark on this new journey. The day started with a sense of purpose as we reported to the school office to mark to mark attendance. We had chance to meet H.M. Sajikumar sir and several teachers, their warm welcome made us feel comfortable and ready to observe the activities around us. It was truly refreshing to be back in a school setting.
Our focus was on understanding the dynamics of classrooms. I paid close attention to the interaction between teachers and students. It was fascinating to see the way teachers managed their classes, explaining concept with clarity and patience. The students were also attentive and engaged. During the breaks, we captured photos of the school's surroundings and facilities. In afternoon, we were invited to participate in a special event. The inauguration of the school's new 3D educational theatre. It was a delightful program and an opportunity for us to witness the vibrant extracurricular activities. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, and it was wonderful to be part of such an event on our very first day
As the day concluded, I reflected on the various experiences we had encountered. From observing the classroom dynamics to engaging with the teachers and participating in the events. It was fulfilling start to our school induction. By 3.30 pm we signed the attendance register and left the school campus.

Day 2- 24th September 2024
On the second day of our school induction at SVHSS, clappana I arrived early in the morning with anticipation for the day a head. After greeting the H.M, I signed the registration book to officially mark my attendance. Soon, the other five members of the group gathered, and we discussed our plans for the day. We decided to focus on observing the school's infrastructure, facilities and ongoing student activities. As we explored the school premises, we took note of the well-maintained classrooms, library and playground. Students were enthusiastically practicing for upcoming programs, and we observed the teachers guiding them with care and encouragement. The interactions between students and teachers reflected a healthy, respectful dynamic, where students seemed comfortable asking questions and participating actively. Later the school management handed us copies of the school magazine, which provided valuable insights into the school's achievements and activities over the years, we referred to it to learn more about the school's history and milestones, appreciating its growth and contribution to the community. By the end of the day, we had gathered significant observations about how the school operates. By 3.30pm we signed the attendance register and left the school campus.

Day 3- 25th September 2024
On the third day of my school induction, I arrived at the school on time and signed the registration as usual. After gathering with my fellow group members, we discussed our plan for the day and first we decided to start by observing the classroom activities. We split into groups, and two of use entered different classroom to observe the student- teacher interactions. During the first part of the day, we observed the distribution of Onam exam papers by teachers, students eagerly received their papers, and the teachers went through the questions with them, explaining the answers and discussing common mistakes. The process was insightful as it highlighted how teachers engage with students post assessment to reinforce learning. Later, we had the opportunity to observe classes conducted by the English teachers. We are observing the teacher's methods of instruction and classroom management. The English teacher asked for our help in setting a topic for an upcoming story- writing competition, which we gladly did.
During the lunch break, we noticed that the school serves mid-day meal to all students. My group members volunteered to help serve the lunch and the students were very cooperative throughout. After lunch, are discussed taking on high school classes, and I received permission to conduct a class for 8th and 9th standard students. The students were incredibly cooperative and welcoming. I began by introducing myself, then randomly called on students to introduce themselves and showcase any talents from their side. This created a friendly, interactive environment. I then initiated an English based activity, a word formation game. Each student participated enthusiastically, and it was clear they enjoyed the task. Their engagement and interest in the activity were highly encouraging. After that I Share with them basic English grammar ideas, they cooperative and engaged well. Afternoon, I Asked them about their favourite subjects and how they perceived their teacher attitudes, sparking an open discussion.
The class ended on a positive note, and I took a few photos with the students and the classroom as the memory of the day. Finally, I concluded the day by signing the registration once again. The third day of induction was a valuable experience in understanding the classroom dynamics and students' interaction.

Day 4- 26th September 2024
Today, marked our 4th day of school induction at SVHSS, clappana. We arrived at the school early in the morning and began the day by signing the registration book as usual. Our group then gathered to plan the activities for the day. We decided to start by collecting general details by the school, including basic infrastructure and proceeded to gather essential data from the school clerk.
An exciting event took place today as news channels 24, Reporter, Mathrubhumi, News Malayalam, visited the school to cover the inauguration of the new 3D education theatre. We had the opportunity to attend this event and observe the proceedings. The reporters took feedback not only from the students but also from us, providing a unique chance to share our perspectives as teacher trainees. The 3D theatre experience was fascinating, we watched a detailed 3D presentation on the process of human heart, which was both educational and engaging. We captured several photos to remember the moments.
After the event, we decided to participate in the school's mid-day meal programme. Lunch provided was not only tasty but also nutrient-rich, reflecting the care taken in preparing meals for the students.
Post-lunch, we prepared feedback forms to gather insights from the students. We distributed these forms to the students of class 10th E, who interacted well with us and filled out the forms accurately. This provided us with valuable feedback on their learning experience. To further understand the classroom environment, we observed the students' behaviour by asking random questions. Which gave us a deeper insight into their engagement levels.
As the day drew to close, we signed the registration book again and left the school campus, concluding another productive day of our induction programme.

Day 5- 27th September 2024
As the final day of my school induction program at SVHSS Clappana approached, a mixture of emotions swirled within me. Over the past days, this school had become a place of learning, discovery, and heartfelt interactions. The day began like any other arriving at the school early, signing in, and meeting up with my fellow teacher trainees, my friends, who had shared this journey with me.
We had developed a bond, not just with each other but with the students we had interacted with. Our first stop was the familiar 10th E classroom, where we had given feedback forms just a few days earlier. The students greeted us with smiles, and a few even approached us to ask questions or just chat about the lessons they had enjoyed during our time there. Seeing their curiosity and eagerness to learn filled me with a sense of pride, knowing that we had played a part in their educational journey.
After completing our morning observations and gathering last bits of feedback, my friends and I decided to make the most of our remaining time. We spent the afternoon taking in the school's atmosphere one last time-walking around the campus, chatting with teachers and staff, and laughing with the students who had become so familiar. The 3D theatre event, the classroom observations, and the daily routines had all created moments that I knew I would carry with me forever.
During the lunch break, we shared a meal, reminiscing about our experiences, the challenges we faced, and the joy of connecting with the students. As the day drew to a close, we made sure to capture the moment with photos, eager to hold onto the memories we had created.
The most emotional part of the day was saying goodbye to the students. Many of them came to shake hands, some even shyly offering words of thanks. Their bright smiles and gratitude were the best parting gifts we could have asked for. It was hard to believe that our time there had come to an end.
As we signed out for the last time and left the school grounds, there was a bittersweet feeling-sad to leave but excited for the future ahead. This induction program had given us a glimpse into the life of a teacher, and it was a moment we would cherish forever.
